Program In Progress
The eleventh Web Audio Conference (WAC) will be held from May 3 to 5 2027 at the Federal University of South of Bahia, in the Sosígenes Costa Campus in Porto Seguro, Bahia Brazil. WAC is an international conference dedicated to web audio technologies and applications. The conference addresses academic research, artistic research, development, design, evaluation and standards concerned with audio-related web technologies such as Web Audio API, Web RTC, WebSockets and Javascript.
The conference welcomes web developers, music technologists, computer musicians, application designers, industry engineers, R&D scientists, academic researchers, artists, students and people interested in the fields of web development, music technology, computer music, audio applications and web standards. The previous ten Web Audio Conferences were held in Europe and North America.
For the first conference held in the Southern Hemisphere, we are inspired by the work of Helio Oiticia, precursor of interactive art. “Programa in Progress”, a series of interactive installations with soundtrack and projections where the sensory dimension and interaction of the public with the space are central to the artistic experience.
Inspired by this work, we propose “Program in progress” as an opportunity for the community to discuss research processes, conceptual ideas and marginal approaches to the usage of web audio technologies for sensory and interactive work. We expect this conference could be not only a showcase for novel technologies but also a place of meeting and gathering for future international partnerships on research and education.
We are very pleased to inform you that the Ubiquitous Music Workshop will also be held in the same institution in the futher week, at May 9 and 10, and it’s a great oportunity for researchers to attend to both conferences. More information on UBIMUS can be found at: https://ubimus2027.codigo.xyz/

We welcome submissions in the following tracks : paper (short and long), practitioner talk, performance, demos and workshops.
All submissions will be single-blinded reviewed. The conference proceedings, which will include both papers (short and long) and extended abstracts (for talks, demos, performances, and artworks), will be published open-access online with Creative Commons attribution, and with an ISSN number.
- Long papers: 6-10 page paper to be presented as an oral presentation.
- Short papers: 2-4 page paper to be presented as poster presentation.
- Practitioner talk: 1-2 page extended abstract to be presented as a short oral presentation. This track aims at welcoming contributions from solo developers, designers, educators, artists, hackers, industry professionals, or broadly speaking practitioners, who wish to share knowledge about web audio related topics such as Web Audio API, Web MIDI, embedded hardware, DMI, etc., but are not used to the standards of academic writing. The proposal must include a title, a brief related work, a description of the work or topic to be presented and a short biography of the author(s). Please contact the organisation if you have questions and / or need some support.
- Performance: Submit a performance making creative use of web-based audio applications. Performances can include elements such as audience device participation and collaboration, web-based interfaces, embedded hardware, DMI, Web MIDI, WebSockets, and/or other imaginative approaches to web technology. Performance submissions consist of a 1-2 page extended abstract that must include a title, a description of the performance, links to audio / video documentation of the work, biographies of all performers and a complete list of technical requirements. Proposals must be suited to stereo sound sytems, with regular projection system, any unusual equipment should be provided by the proposers, including servers and routers, please contact us for any support.
- Artworks and Demos: Submit a work to be presented as an artwork or hands-on demo which makes significant use of web audio standards such as Web Audio API or Web MIDI in conjunction with other technologies such as HTML5 graphics, WebGL, and Virtual Reality frameworks. Artwork and demo submissions consist of a 1-2 page extended abstract including a title, a description of the project, diagrams, images or links to online resources. Works must be suitable for presentation on a computer kiosk with headphones. As we don’t have much technical resourses, any unusual equipment needs to be provided.
